Company History

robert-furr-cabinets-hampton-roads-vaRight out of high school in 1969, Robert Furr started employment at a local Hampton cabinet shop and found his passion for custom woodwork. Soon after, he was drafted and spent the next three years in the US Army. After getting out of the Military, Robert came back to Hampton, went to school for a short period, married Sharon and went back to work for the same cabinet shop. Around 1975, Robert had a full woodworking shop setup in the garage and was designing and building custom woodworking jobs on the side.

Robert bought the same Hampton, Virginia building they are in now on West Pembroke Avenue in 1980 to officially start Robert Furr Custom Cabinets. The shop was added on to as the company has grown in the mid-1990's doubling its size to a total of 6,000 sq. ft. of workspace.

From its beginning, the family-run business has established and maintained strong working relationships with some of the regions premiere luxury home builders generating a bulk of its business.

Through these builders, we have performed custom cabinet work for some of the finest neighborhoods in the region and beyond including York County, Williamsburg, James City County, Hampton, Newport News, Midlothian, Elizabeth City, NC and even in Florida.

Through the years, our work with custom home builders and local interior designers was a natural for receiving a steady stream of individual project referrals locally and in other States.  The relationships that we have forged have spanned decades. We have performed three to four extensive projects for our clients that have spilled over to receiving work from their children as they have requested our custom cabinetry creations for their homes.

The combination of both have generated a substantial footprint of our work in numerous local upscale communities, Williamsburg's King's Mill, Ford's Colony and The Vineyards; Homes along Newport News' James River Waterfront, Huntington and Hilton; and Hampton's Salt Ponds, Howe Farms and the Farmington neighborhood.

We have performed several commercial projects over the years with contracts to renovate Langley AFB movie theater and worked with the Army-Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES).
